A “Classified” Engagement Story
When Natalie picked up the want ads in her morning paper, she expected to see the usual posts; used cars, job postings, and maybe a litter of puppies for sale. What she saw instead was a classified ad that would change her life.
Shaking, Natalie looked up from the newspaper. Greg, her boyfriend (at that point) was down on one knee and holding a ring.
This clever newspaper proposal (and stunning ring) was something Greg Spiczka had been planning for several months. He worked with Melissa Kruse-Kelley at J. F. Kruse Jewelers to design a one-of-a-kind ring that incorporated his girlfriend Natalie’s favorite gemstones—rare and stunning Tsavorite garnets.
Natalie had spotted these intense green gems years earlier when she was working in advertising sales and called on Jim Kruse. “I was there on a business call when I saw a necklace of these gorgeous, brilliant green stones beckoning me from the display case,” she said. “It was love at first sight and I knew that one day I would own some of these rare beauties. Little did I know that they’d be a part of my love story and engagement.”
Being a pretty romantic guy, Greg pays attention to Natalie’s newfound love of Tsavorite garnets. Two months before his “classified” proposal, he gave Natalie the necklace she spotted in the J. F. Kruse window for her birthday. “It kept her from thinking too much about a ring,” he explained, “which gave me time to design the perfect one.”
He had some criteria for his custom ring design. 1. It had to incorporate Tsavorite garnets. 2. He wanted a flush mount so he could hold his sweetheart’s hand without having a protruding diamond digging into his own hand. 3. It had to be as special and unique as Natalie.
“J. F. Kruse was wonderful to work with. They listened to my ideas and worked within my budget,” said Greg. “From the initial meeting, it was a very positive experience.”
What was the outcome of Greg’s proposal? She said yes! For their first anniversary, Greg gave Natalie earrings to complement her necklace and ring in—you guessed it—Tsavorite garnets. “He’s definitely romantic,” grins Natalie. “We’ve been married for ten years now and we still hold hands.”
