Why You Should Put Custom Wedding Bands on Your Radar
Your engagement ring is unique. Chances are, your fiancé spent many months designing and/or selecting the perfect diamond and setting to fit your personality and his wishes. That’s the entire point of the entire J.F. Kruse experience and custom wedding jewelry is our sweet spot. Whether you have a custom engagement ring or not, your custom wedding jewelry experience can extend to the design of your wedding band.
Options for Custom Wedding Bands
There is good news and bad news when it comes to your custom wedding ring. The good news is that perhaps unlike your engagement ring, you can be involved in the wedding ring selection process. That’s also the bad news. The task can seem daunting. It doesn’t have to be, but it’s true that your options are endless. The wedding band is of considerable significance to your wedding ceremony. Not only is it the symbol of your every lasting love and commitment to your marriage, but it’s another piece of your personal story.
My biggest piece of advice for brides on their wedding bands? Keep it simple. The point of a wedding band (aside from the symbolism of forever) is to complement your engagement ring, not clash with it. You’ll want to match your wedding band to look like an extension of your engagement ring. Start there. Perhaps you have unusual-shaped stones, or an engagement ring that’s part of a design that includes flanking bands. Chances are you (or your fiancé) already know what your wedding band will look like, in general.
The Evolution of Wedding Band Trends
Gone are the days of a simple gold band when it comes to wedding rings. More and more customization comes into play with each couple. Lifestyle should be considered when customizing wedding bands. Traditional, modern, mixed metal, precious gemstones, and inscriptions are all ways to add layers of personalization to your wedding band set. If you’re looking for some ideas, consider:
- Choosing a different metal. While white metals such as white gold and platinum have been favorites for bridal settings for years, both yellow gold and rose gold are emerging as refreshingly traditional options. If your engagement ring is one metal, feel free to add juxtaposition to your set by setting your custom wedding band in a different metal.
- Stackable wedding rings. Bridal stacks featuring different combinations and precious metal settings allow you to showcase your own style. Sometimes, an eternity band featuring diamonds or precious gemstones that run along the full length of the outer edge of the ring replaces a traditional solitaire-type engagement ring. The wedding band you customize to complement this type of bridal set can follow suit, or be completely different.
- Using heirloom pieces. Perhaps you’ve been gifted a piece of jewelry from a different generation or era, or have a piece from your fiancé you want included in your forever set. J.F. Kruse would absolutely be honored to include any existing pieces into your custom wedding band design.
- Personal, intimate touches. There’s nothing sweeter than the private nuances your relationship with your fiancé possesses, and there’s no reason your custom wedding bands can’t reflect that. Popular ideas include inscribing a special acronym, nicknames, or date inside the band; adding his-and-hers birthstone to each other’s bands; or preserving a fingerprint inside (or outside) the custom wedding band.
With This Ring – the J.F. Kruse Custom Design Process
When you’re ready to custom design your wedding band, we are too. We start with a simple sketch that turns into a digital drawing, produced by one of our non-commissioned designers. After you approve the digital design, we’ll work to set it in wax. This process is so cool. It produces a rendering in 3D so you can try it on, and it will emulate your custom wedding band in nearest reality.
After the wax model step we get to the final piece. Our goldsmith pours the precious metal into the mold of your custom wedding band. Your hand-selected diamonds and gemstones are set into the metal, polished to a brilliant shine, and you are presented with the final product: your wedding band. Make sure you consider custom wedding bands for your wedding day; you’ll treasure these pieces for the rest of time!
